QSFP,全稱Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable,四通道小型可插拔光模塊,具有四個(gè)獨(dú)立的全雙工收發(fā)通道。它的設(shè)計(jì)初衷是用高密度的光模塊替換單通道的SFP,QSFP只比標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的SFP模塊大30%。這種器件支持100Mbps到10Gbps的速率,和SFP一樣,它也具有數(shù)字診斷能力,可以監(jiān)控鏈路的性能。QSFP是為高密度應(yīng)用開發(fā)的。原來的系統(tǒng)設(shè)計(jì)由于設(shè)備機(jī)框面板的面積有限,光纖數(shù)量受到限制,使用標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的SFP或者10Gbps XFP接頭,可以容納的通道數(shù)主要受到物理空間的限制。QSFP就是在這樣的背景下開發(fā)的,可以把更多的轉(zhuǎn)發(fā)器和接收器集中在更小的空間中去。起初是思科率先開發(fā)QSFP,準(zhǔn)備用于SONET/SDH。因?yàn)榈湫偷腟ONET系統(tǒng)是首先根據(jù)帶寬來設(shè)計(jì)背板,然后再配置相應(yīng)的板卡。例如:一個(gè)10Gbps背板的SONET系統(tǒng)可以設(shè)計(jì)為4個(gè)OC-48端口,或者支持16個(gè)OC-12端口的板卡。理論上,這個(gè)系統(tǒng)可以支持64端口OC-3的板卡。但是這時(shí)候問題就來了,系統(tǒng)設(shè)計(jì)者無法做64端口的線卡,因?yàn)榍懊姘迳细狙b不下那么多轉(zhuǎn)發(fā)器。所以就萌生了開發(fā)這種QSFP高密度小型接口用于OC-3端口的想法。 此后,幾家公司就QSFP的制造達(dá)成了多源協(xié)議(MSA),器件逐漸升級(jí)。QSFP也從單純的單模光纖SONET應(yīng)用領(lǐng)域走出來,進(jìn)入其它多模光纖應(yīng)用,如千兆以太網(wǎng)、光纖通道、InfiniBand等。很多MSA成員供應(yīng)VCSEL芯片或者平行VCSEL芯片,推動(dòng)了QSFP技術(shù)在多模領(lǐng)域的應(yīng)用。

    QSFP的4個(gè)通道的可插拔接口傳輸速率達(dá)到了40Gbps。很多XFP中成熟的關(guān)鍵技術(shù)都應(yīng)用到了該設(shè)計(jì)中。它作為一種光纖解決方案,并且速度和密度均優(yōu)于4通道CX4接口。由于可在XFP相同的端口體積下以每通道10Gbps的速度支持四個(gè)通道的數(shù)據(jù)傳輸,所以QSFP的密度可以達(dá)到XFP產(chǎn)品的4倍,SFP+產(chǎn)品的3倍。具有4通道且密度比CX4高的QSFP接口已經(jīng)被InfiniBand標(biāo)準(zhǔn)所采用。

在QSFP基礎(chǔ)上發(fā)展而來的QSFP+,全稱Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus。其解決方案是專為高密度的應(yīng)用程序。整個(gè)系統(tǒng)包括38PIN的連接器,電磁干擾(EMI)屏蔽組件,光學(xué)收發(fā)器,散熱組件,銅纜組件,MTP光纜組件,光學(xué)回環(huán)等。
